GERMAN LOAN ON "HATE" BASIS
ATTEMPT TO WORK TJP AXTI WILSON' FEKLIXt'.
AMSTERDAM, Sept, 6. ' A tremendous campaign is being pet on foot m Germany m order to boom the coming seventh Avar loan. For lack of a better incentive, feeling this time is being Avorked up against the United States, and various associations are issuing appeals to the Germaii people to make the loan a great success, so as to provide the besfc / answer to President Wilson.
The Berlin Merchants' Association, for example, sent out a- document far and wide, m which people Avere begged to demonstrate that Germany was financially unconquerable. "This," it declared, "is the duty of every patriotic German, especially at a time when the -President of the United States, m densest ignorance of German conditions and giving further proof of that hostility tb Germans which was formerly so badly concealed, makes another frivolous attempt to sow discord m Germany between the Government and tho people." The Lokalanzieger states that the President of the Reichstag is considering calling together that body for the purpose of an "imposing demonstration" against Mr Wilson's policy, as outlined m the reply to the Pope. Such demonstration, however, as the Hamburg periodical Vortrupp says, might possibly be imposing m the wrong direction. It points out tliat the July Peace Resolution was supported by 212 deputies, representing 6,9667201 voters, while there voted against it 126 deputiep. representing 3,915,104 electors. In rt-he Opposition v6te were included Independent Socialists representing nearly a. million voters. Tliey voted as they "did, not en account of any liking for the Conservatives, but because the resolution did not go far enough. The Polish members abstained, but certainly not because they desired the. prolongation of the war.
; Deducting the Independent Socialist vote from that of the parties opposed to the Peace Resolution, and adding it* with the Polish vote, as both should be, with ihe_ majority against the Junkers and their National Liberal allies, figures are reached showing that m the Reichstaa the. annexation' arid inderimity party. are really represented by 62 members and 1,3.00,000 voters, while m the opposing camp are 290 Reichstag members and 10,000,000 electors.
