PUHA.

Tlie squally, changeable wet weather during the past few days has iiy the meantime completely checked shearing operations, and m some parts, owing to the cold snaps and heavy rains, newlyshown sheep have suffered considerably. Several stations have the dry sheep cut out, and m a few instances the smaller sheepowners have finished for the season. The waggons had just got a good start carting m from the Whatatutu and Mangatu district^ to the Puha railway station, but will iiow have a lull for a time should this changeable weather continue. Feed for all kinds of stock is very plantiful, and the general opinion i.s that we are going to have another, w.et summer. . ■ Owing to the expiration of lease, Mr McCarthy and family, who have resided m this district for the past eleven or twelve years, left on Saturday ,lafct for their new home which they have bought on tlie flats about one and a half miles from King's road railway station.. Mr McCarthy is likely to continue his occupation as surfaceman for the Waikohu County on the Puba- Whatatutu road Mr W. J. Brown, who was carting for the Waikohu County m the Motu district, met with a. severe accident on Friday last. It seems that when crossing a small, narrow bridge with a four-horse team and! a heavy load of culvert pipes fust after a thunderstorm, the wheels skidded on to the side of the bridge, the railing giving way, | with tho result that the team with a, load of pipes were precipitated into the gully below, a fall of fully twenty feet. Mr Brown was fortunate m not being killed. Although having received a very severe bruising, and one or two ribs broken, he is likely to be about as usual m a -short time. Mr W. J. Reid, \yho -.game to Mr Brown's assistance, ' receiv%6/ "*»'" bad kick on the, leu from one of the struggling horses. A young horse, the most valuable of the team, got killed. Dairying m this district is m full swing at present. A number of cream cans are also being sent by rail to the factories from stations further up the line. — (Correspondent. November 3.)
