Harold Batten (20), a seaman, waa charged before Mr. Love, S.M., at the Centra^ Police Court yesterday, with having, at Sydney, <,n or about October 9 forged a seaman's certificate of discharge. Inspector Mitchell, m asking for a remand, stated the forgery alleged was that the discharge actually belonged to* the accused; but had been altered from that of a sculleryman to that of a third mate. When arrested, accused was found to have m his possession a quantity of gehgnite, dynamite, detonators, and fuses, and correspondence relating to explosions on ships. Mr. Love : What ship is he employed on?

Inspector Mitchell: Oii a local vessel, I forget the name now. He has also been employed on the Union- Company's boats here.
