A SUCCESSFUL PRODUCTION. His. Majesty's was well fillec lastr nigßvbh? the occasion of the appear ance of the Gisborne Follies combination tho proceeds of whose fine performanc< are to go to the patriotic funds. An efficient orchestra opened: the proceedings m both portions of the entertainment with overtures played m s capable manner under the direction oi Mr Mainland Foster. The dresses of the troupe on this occasion were something similar to those introduced by the Red Dandies, and were a decided improvement on the, pierrpt ; costumes previous*.} m use. Allowing for the few slips noticeable m the best of amateur per formances, those. present last night were treated ?toV a"n amateur . production whicl" would compare favorably . with the general run of entertainments of this description. - The various items were got off promptly, there being practically nc delay m between,, whwh enabled the performance to go with a swing righl throughout. The > stage work, m * botldancing and coming on and off. the stage was well and effectively arranged." Tlie "hit" of the evening was Miss Bathie Howie-Stuart/ of Dunedin, a clevei comedienne, whose items were well received; ;and enoored 1 several times. ; Included 1 m the selections she gave were ''Catch Me," "Billy," "If you've-noth-ling else to do," "Cross the Mason Dixie," "Hullo, Tv Tu/' "My Partner,' f'Liza Brown," and" "Fat Lil Fellah." Miss : Stuart 4ias a pleaising - appearance on the 'stage, and'her. articulation is fine and diistinct, which enables her hearers to, follow. the sorigT easily. The' company choruses were well arranged, and the harmonising m; ~ some was particularly good. Mr T. Watson^ m his vocal effort "Come to Tea" :^vith a unison^ chorus, deceived a ; godd reicejitionv and -he. alsc sang two other '"songs, 'both 'of whicl] were encored. Miss F. WhHeley dancied the cachucha. f rdrnt* 'The Gondol'-Nrs" m a graceful manner; which well earned the encore that, was- given. Mr F. J., Teat was m good form, and diis vocal . contributions were very; acceptable, and he aflso. earned encores. A- 'duet, ■ "Springtime,!".by Miss .. Ay Holt and Mr J. , Dods was pretty, and finely rendered." In a Harry Lauder , e)iaracter. sketch Mr J. Harold Cato caused some mirth amongst his listeners;;, the Only, drawback being that his voice was; not quite loud enough, find he waii difficult to follow; at times. Miss B. Mao Donald was m good yoice, andher. singing created a f avorable -impiVesfeion, as did '.'"that of Miss Mi '"Moore, especially m her rendering of "Mary, never mind the Dairy/ which created more enthusiasm than' any otherlitejujn the performances- Tho* duets "Goinc atndterne^th my" big-; umbrella," bv> Mis* Moore and Mr F. *J. Teat, ahd v 'T\di kind of .feel I'm m love," by Mr.' and Mrs J. Dods, were both nicely rendered especially the latter, m Which some pretty dancing- was introduced, whicl set off tbe rhythm of the piece splepdidly.
