WAIKAREMOANA SCHEME.
COMPLETE SURVEY URGED.At the last meeting of the Napier' Borough Council Cr. Harvey moved:— "Tliat this Council considers the question of a hydro-electrical scheme for Lake Waikaremoana of sueh v importance to the counties) of Cook, Poverty Bay, Hawke's Bay and Waipawa that the time has arrived when joint action by the people through the members of the districts should be taken to impress the Government with the urgent necessity of having a complete survey made by Mr Parry, chief electrical engineer, at an early date; that the members for the above-mentioned districts, vis*;, the Hon W. D. S. Mac Donald, Sir J. Carroll; Sir J. Findlay and Messrs J. V. Brown and G. Hunter, be asked to take the matter m hand and obtain some definite assurance from the Government that the scheme would! be thoroughly investigated before any schemes were started; that a 'sinTicient grant bo placed on the estimates this session to enable the above survey to be carried put.' — Cr. Harvey briefly urged the importance of the scheme to the North Island and that it should be put m hand as soon as possible. — Cr. McCarthy seconded the motion.— Cr. Wright proposed appointing a deputation to go with the Chamber of Commerce deputation to Wellington to strengthen their hands as much as possible. — The : Mayor thought that a conference should be called during the coming week to appoint representatives to g"o to Wellington. — The motion was carried unanimously.
