NO LOANS TO ELIGIBLES. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WIEiLLINGTONv this day. ' Th© attention of the Minister of ; Finance was called by Mr Jennings to v j letter ' sent out by the Advarices to ■ j Settlers Department to • a backjblocks i settler who wished to have a £200 ad- j vance. The letter stated that the depart- J ment understood the settler was a single man eligible, for enlistment, and wished to know why he had not done so. Un-less-the applicant colud submit a certificate from the , military authorities j that he was not eligible the department j could not grant a- loan. Mr Jennings i explained that this man was preparing j a section, for younger brothers and sisters, improving 1 the place sufficiently so that he could enlist. - . Sir Joseph Waid ■ promised to inquire into the position.
