There was an enthusiastic scene m the Chamber, when the Minister for War (Sigrior Giardino) called attention to the fact that the Germans had joined the Austrians m a heavy onslaught. He. said the Italian armies, were fully prepared. Our losses ' m. the August offensive were remarkably small. It was difficult to know whether the Aostro(fermans' attack was political or military. "Whatever might happen m Russia or elsewhere," lie declared, "the enemy will never tread our sacred and inviolable soil."
