POST AND TELEGRAPH CONFERENCE.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Post and! Telegraph Conference passed the following resolutions: It is the opinion of this conference that the classification- scales affecting public servvants under the Commissioner's control are iii urgent need of radical alteration, - because.the y- do not allow any person .receiving a recognised living wage until > year's, after such a wage would be paid 'm other walks of life. As practically all post and telegraph employees serve approximately two years a8 telegraph messengers they should, on promotion to higher duties, be placed m a posi-. tion to be able to pay for their food land clothing, and thereafter make such progress as will keep their earnings m line with workers m outside occupations requiring special skill and knowledge. Thiß cenferehae is of opinion that the time has arrived when the ' remuneration of public servants and other wage ana salary workers should be arranged so as to automatically synchronise with the spending power of a sovereign, based on the inde^ numbers prepared quarterly by the Government statistician.
