MANY GERMAN MACHINES DOWNED.

(Received' May 3, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, May 2. April w&s easily a record month for air activity. Statistics compiled from the communiques show that 714 machines were downed on the Western front— 366 German, 147 British ' and 201 French. Of the German victims the British ..downed 269, all with the exception of six by airmen. Tlie previous highest totals were 165 last July, 189 in August, and 322 in September.
