GREAT SHIPBUILDING PROPOSAL.
TO COUNTERACT EFFECT OF SUBMARINES. {Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received March 16, 10.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, March 15. The New York Tribunes Washington correspondent states that the Government Shippiug Board is considering an expenditure of fifty million dollars on the construction of a fleet of two thousand tons wooden cargo ships to a stand ardised design, to counteract submariiings. . Representatives of nineteen shipyard.are conferring with the Shipping Board as to the time- required to build mithousand ships. Representatives of the railways and unions have begun n con ference attempt a settlement of the threatened strike.
