AUCKLAND OFFICER, DECORATED

Cabled advice has been received by the Rev. George Burgess, of Papaktua, to the effecA that his son, LieutenantColonel W. L. H. Burgess, D.5.0., serving in France, had been further honored bv receiving the" Cross of the Legion of Honor. Lieutenant-Colonel Burgess, formerly well known in Auckland as officer in charge of Xo 4 area, deceived the- Distinguished Service Order for his work with the Australian Artillery during the Gallipoli campaign, and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Ho now commands the" First Division of tho Australian Artillery, and has been mentioned several timew in despatches.
