CAPTAIN W. S. R. BLOOMFIELD MISSING.

Mrs. T. E. R. Bloomfield has received the following cablegram irom the Wax Office : "Regret to inform you that your son, Captain W. S. R: BloOmfield, Royal Flying Corps, is reported missing on March 6. '

Recent casualty lists and hospital progress reports contained the following names :

Wounded : Rifleman Arthur T. Butler, jeweller (Mrs 'A. T. Butler, Childers road) 32th Reinforcements. Severe case : Driver James Kent, Tiniroto.

Lance Corporal Norman Farqtfhar. Bruce Hume, of the Imperial Camel Corps, who was killed ' in action at El Arish, Egypt, was a brother of Mr. Walter Hume, Euralie Station, Yass, and a grand-nephew of Hamilton Hume, the Australian. ' explorer. Lance-Corpora] Hume was originally a- member of the Australian laght Horse,' in which he ranked as sergeant, but was transferred to the Imperial Camel Corps as lance-corporal. In his letter to Mrs. Hume, Adjutant Hall, referring to her son's death, wrote :-»-"It was a noble one, as. he had borne himself with great" bravery and courage. Jusfc aifter he fell the enemy surrendered;"' Cable advice has been received by Mr James Mayne and Mr, Arthur Mayne, of ChristchurcH, that their brother, Corporal W. C Mayne. yhas died from wounds in France. The late Corpora i Mayne was the fourth son of the late Mr. William Miyne, and was born at Halswell 47 years ago; aaid educated at the West Christchureh School. He resided with his brothers and sisters at Timar'u . for. some years ■ after leaving school, and then went to Australia; where he .has-* lived ever since, ag a' mining assay ec ".and engineer. He joined an Australian force "some months ago, and was attached to a Tunnelling Corps. He married in Australia, and leaves. a widow and four children. Mrs. J. Couper, of Cameron road, Napier, has received the sad news of the death " of her son, Bombardier William Black, in action in France. Bombardier Black, was just 30 years of age and, although he was born and . educated in Napier, enlisted in the Poverty Bay district, where he was sheep farming. He only left New Zealand^ lest June, and had not ..been in the front line for any length of time. Much sympathy will be extended to his mother and h's other relatives in their sad loss.

The High Commissioner has cabled that Gunner H. D. Pascoe, son of Mrs Coutts, Manurewa, was, at this beginning of. DecembeFiast, an inmate of the New Zealand Hospital at Walton-on-Thames. . Gunner Pascoe- was wounded in four places while fighting at the DardaheJJes, but did not retire, and was later seised, . on the battlefield, with enteric. At Malta pieces of shell were extracted from his. wounds, and at the lime of the ■message he was suffering from enteric and dysentery. Private Tom Price, who was reported as paving died of wounds, was one of three -..brothers in the firing line — sons of Mrs. M. Price, of Cambridge. Private Price left New Zealand a few months alter the commencement of the war. He was wounded in June last, and on recovery returned to the operations on tiie, French, front. Again He was wounded 011 February 4th,- and this iiijury proved fatal. While resident in Cambridge .Private N Price took an active part in Y.M.C.A. work. For four aind a-half , years . prior to "his enlistment he was in the Territorials.

Lieutenant .. Eric G. Andell, who was killed in action, was educated at the 7 Auckland Grammar School, and took a prominent part in the Grammar School Old Boys' Football Cflub. Previous to enlistment, he was oiu the staff of the Native Department in Auckland. His mother lives in Wellington. Corporal Edwin Bailey Doidge, reported missing and believed to have ueen killed, was the youngest son of Air Edwin Doidge, one time of Auckland, but for some years past a. resident of Kootomandra, New South Wales. Corporal Doidgo was wounded ih France about the middle of last year, being struck on the back by shrapnel while trench-digging. He was invalided' to England, and only returned to .the. firing-line -'on the Western front just after last Christmas. He came to Auckland about five years ago, and was at first in the employ of a commercial firm for some time. Subsequently Corporal Doidge joined the reporting staff of the New Zealand Herald, and later the illustrations department of the Auckland Weekly News, enlisting in one of the reinforcement drafts whilst holding the latter position. His elder brothers, Sergeant-Major F. W. Doidge, formerly chief reporter of the Auckland Star, and Private Herbert '©oidge, a former employee of the Auckland branch of the Bank of New Zealand, are both at the frout. Corporal Doidge was warmly esteemed by a laYge circle 'of friends, and. was a young- man of high character and modest demeanour. He was 24 years of age and unmarried. Corporal Roderick 7 Adam Madill, who 19 reported to be missing, is the fifth son of Mr W. H. Madill, of Pukekohe, and at the time he enlisted as a private he was minister of the Presbyterian Church at Whakatane. Educated at the Pukekohe schools, he took the theological course at the Otago .University/ joining the ministry about .five yeara ago. He is a single man, aged 28. - Corporal Madill's brothers are Messrs Robert M. Madill, of Hamilton, John W. Madill, now in camp in Trenthara,. the Rev. J. D. C. Madill, of the .Stratford Presbyterian Church, and Mr W. H. Madill, of Auck. land. *, Private Alfred George Trevarthen, reported killed in action, was the sixth son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Trevarthen, of Bayfield road, Pousonby, and was 28 years -old and unmarried. He was bom in Auckland and educated at the Bayfield school, and was well known in j yachting circles. At the time of his enlistment Private , Trevarthen was in the j employ of the Auckland Harbor Board. Private Howard W. Barter, died from pneumonia, was 26 years of age. He was born in London, and was educated at Sling's College, Auckland. He was for some, tune prior to enlisting engaged in farming, and later went to Lincoln College^ Canterbury. On the outbreak: of •war, lie joined the specialists, and "was serving with the machine-gun section up to the time of his death. Mr T. H. Brain, Onehunga, has received advice of the death *.of his «on, FiraVblass Air Mechanic W. L. Brain, ■who was killed at Bailfeul, Prance. A number of messages of sympathy have Been received from the King and Queen, and .the Army Council, by Mr Brain. Private Arnold Green, who was killed in acljbn on February 21, was a son of Mrs Ellen Green, Mount Eden. He was a native of Sheffield, had lived m. Auck-land-tor ;threie years, and. up to the time o£ his, enlistment was. in the emp.oy of Hellabys, Ltd., in Shbrtlarid street.
