CONSERVING FOOD SUPPLIES.
PROPOSED RATION SYSTEM. (Australian and N.Z. Caole Association.) (Reooived March 3, 1.50 p.m.) LONDON, March 2. Tlie Food Controller will decide as tc the compulsory rationing of hotels and restaurants. As the existing regulation* are based on the nunlher of courses they proved useless to reduce the consumption of meat. The rationing will br based on a scale, which Lord Devonport has asked the nation to accept voluntarily. Lord Devonport ia taking active steps to prevent retail prices increasing beyond last 'week's level, owing to import restrictions, particularly tea, whereof n rise of twopence per pound has been announced. Many labor organisations favor a com pulsory rationing system, which is grow- ' ing m favor m the Rouse of Commons. It is understood that a scheme has beer prepared whereby ration tickets will b< "' supplied through" post offices.
