LONDON. Jan. 17

A proposal to establish a protectorate _i the Holy Land under the American flag is being mooted here as a solution of the most difficult problem m the tangled political situation m the Near East. A high official said that Entente statesmen would welcome the participation of the United States when the future of these territories is to be determrined, and that, m the belief of the Allies, Amerioa must soon abandon her traditional policy of isolation. Great Britain and her Allies take the view that the interests of the United States, commercial and otherwise, are so closely bound up with thoee of the Continent -that it will be impossible for Americans hereafter to stand passively by, confining their field of action to the western hemisphere.
