SIR G. BUCHANAN'S TRIBUTE TO RUSSIAN STATESMEN.'
PETROGRAD, Jan. 2. •Sir Georgo Buchanan, the British Ambassador, m proposing the health of, the Russian guests al,. the New Year's dinner of the New English Club yesterday, described M. Sazonotf, tlie late Minister for Foreign Affairs, as "one of the master builders of the l.usso-British Alliance," and M. Rodzianko, the President of the Duma, as "always a champion of Great Britain at any time when _he was calumniated."
After the toast had been honored and the cheering subsided a voice from behind the screens separating the part} from other guests at the restaurant shouted loudly "Long live England." This evoked hearty cheers. Lieut-General Sir Jolui Hanbury-Wil-iiams, Who lias been with the Russian army since the beginning of the Avar, replying to the toast of the British Army, said that he had seen the Russians m victories and reverses^ but never m defeat, nor would the Germans evei see them defeated, and the later knew it full well.
