METHODIST CONFERENCE.
(Per Press -Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Tho Methodist Conference to-day resolved: "That the Native Minister's attention be drawn to tlie growing evils of intemperance amongst the young Maori people on the West Coast, as well as on that part of the East Coast to which attention ha? recently been drawn, especially through conveyance of liquor into native settlements, and that he be earnestly urged to have the law so amended aud regulations so enforced immediately as to abolish this shameful and deplorable state of things." A .successful year of work waa report,ed m connection with the North and South Island orphanages. It was stated - that close on £4000 nad been collected for the latter, mainly through the efforts of Sißter Mabel. Messrs Percy Winstone and George Bowron were re-ap-poifited treasurers. The secretaries, Mr W. Astley and the Rev. T. W. Vaile. . were also re-appointed. The conference received a deputation from the New Zealand Alliance executive, and promised to give its heartiest support to the Alliance m dealing with the liquor traffic. »M«--««-__«_8a-__B_----__«_M_»
