Union Company's transport, and Tucker, chief cook of the Whangape. The former was granted two months' exemption. The ai^peals m the other two cases were granted whilo appellants remain m their present employment. Thomas McGee and Harry Taylor were charged at the Police Court with having attempted to leave New Zealand without liaving obtained permission. Alter the steamer Kurow left the wharf for Newcastle last night she stopped m the .stream and sent lor the police, and handed over the two accused. McGee had __Hl6 m his possession. He is a single tnan, a builder by trade, and was called up m the ballot, but exempted till March to arrange his affairs. Taylor is a printer by occupation. A negro named Lopez was charged with counselling and aiding McGee. Accused were remanded for a week. On an application fpr bail, Sergeant Rutledge objected. It was stated McGee arranged to give one man a hundred pounds for assisting h'm to get away. Bail was refused. WELLINGTON, this day. Two reservists, one drawn m the first ballot and the other m the second, were arretted aft Wellington yesterday, when, it is alleged, tbey were, about to leave New Zealand. They will be tried by -.ourt-martial, probably next week. The Methodist Conference stationing committee submitted a second reading of stations, which will be finally considered to-morrow. It was decided to engage the i.cv. Val Trigge as evaugalist for another year. It was agreed to observe the first week m June for self-denial. In connection with a special effort on behalf of foreign missions the Revs. W. A. Sinclair and C. H. Laws, and Mr J. W.
