OBJECTIONS TO SERVIOEL fPer Press Association.) ! PALMEItSTON JN., last night. ; The .Military Service Board commenced its sittings this morning. The appeals of Edward Charles White, farmer, i»i»iton ; Garry Edward JDenton, farmer, Ohauj Nathaniel Burnet Jones, butter box maker, Feuoing; and Henry WilJiam *Htacey, caterer, ij'eilding, were dismissed. William Alfred Turner, butcher, Waituna Westj appealed on grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Some months ago he enlisted and was rejected as unlit, and since that he had taken on obligations which he could not lightly cast aside. His removal would oc a great inconvenience to the people- of the district. — The case was held over for consideratifn. The appeals of Alfred iNorman Palmer, farmer, iiaumai, on grounds of public interest, undue hardsuip, and religious, objections, and ißoy Uordon Forlong, farmer, of: Bunnythorpe, on religious objections alone, were dismissed. Both appellants were members of the Brethren. — The chairman, said that the appeal failed on the ground proved on several occasions that the doctrines of the Brethren were not opposed to war. i Wilhelm Pukiowski, dairy farmer, of Whakaronga, appealed on tne ground of . hardship and occupation. He had been married twice, his second -marriage taking place six months ago. He thought of enlisting twelve. months ago and saw a doctor, whq said that appellant had had pleurisy and wouki do more good here than by enlisting. — Appeal adjourned till next sitting . Alfred Claude Galpioi, sheepfaxmer, of | Marton, appealed on grounds of puKiic 1 interest and undue hardship. — An exj tension of time before being called up ! to the end of March next was granted. Appellant wished an extension of time before being called up. He was managing a big farm, but, at the end of March his brothers would take over the management. — (Captain, Walker said the request was a reasonable one, and it was granted by the board. William Henry Stephens, carpenter, of Palmerston North, appealed on the grounds of undue hardship and religious objections. His father was an invalid and liis mother was"' unable to take charge of his father alone.— Case adjourned sine die. Geoffrey Tremaine, law clerk, Palmerston North, appealed on the ground of undue hardship.— His employer, Mr H. G. Moore, appealed on the same ground. — The Board dismissed the appeal, but granted an extension till the end of April, provided apellant stayed m his present occupation. Robert James Fitzsimmons, Carnarvon, applied for and was granted two months' leave. Harry Olonzo Webberly appealed on ( grounds of public interest and undue hardship.. .Appellant had enlisted before, but had not been called up since. Then he had married and built a house. — Case adjourned sine die. Eric .Smith .Badger, dairy and mixed farmer, of Bulls, appealed on grounds o^f \indue hardship and religious objections. — Appellant stated that he and his brother-in-law farmed over 300 acres of dairying ; land. The brother-in-law was not an experienced farmer, and there was no one to work the farm m appellant's absence. Ho was a Christian and would have nothing to do with the killing of his fellowman. He had numerous relatives at the front and if he believed m fighting he would be with them. — In answer to a question, -witness said he would submit to the authority of the State, but would not obey it. He would submit as long as the State laws did not conflict with the laws of God. — The Board reserved decision till April 30th, appellant to report to the military authorities once a month. Robert Sutton, tailor, Palmerston Norn, appealed on ground of undue hardship. He was a married man with one child. He had three brothers at the front and two m munition factories. He wanted four months to pay off liabilities.—Appeal dismissed, leave being granted until February sth.
