CANTERBURY APPEALS. - \ (Per Press Association.) ' CHRISTCHURCH, last night. The Military Service Board sat at Rangiora yesterday. Joseph John Ripdgers, farm hand, of Fernside, was allowed till the end of February to get in the harves^. Charles • Johnson, laborer, of Saltwater Creek, appealed on grounds of undue hardship, being the sole support , of his aged mother. He had been rejected twelve months previously. — Appeal adjourned for one month to allow him to be medically exanuned. John R. Blackett, blacksmith, of Leithfield, appealed on ground of public interest, he being the only blacksmith in the district. — The chairman said it was the duty of the military authorities in every district to find out the facts concerning appellants and submit them to the. Board. The same trouble had been, happening in every case coming before the Board. The Board would have . to assume on the evidence given that appellant's shop was essential to his district, and would therefore adjourn the case sine die. Counsel : Until the eombing-out period? • The Chairman : Yes. The case of John Gebbie, shepherd, in the employ of R. O. Dixon, of Eyreton, who looked after 4000 sheep and 4000 lambs, was adjourned sine die. Walter William Treloar, gardener, of Glenmark, stated that he had a wife and five children, having been married nine years. — Appeal allowed on ground that appellant' ;was not a member of the First Division; James William Sheridan, shearer, of Waikari, appealed on grounds of undue hardship. — Dismissed. Appellant was allowed a month to finish shearing operations. Hugh Campbell and Samuel John Campbell, farmers, of East Oxford, appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship.— The appeal of Samuel was adjourned sine die, and that of Hugh w'as dismissed, but he was allowed until $10 end of February to assist in harvesting operations. Frederick Alfred Ganderton, of Hanmer Springs, mechanical engineer in the Railway Department, appealed on grounds of unque hardship, having infirm parents and a delicate wife to^sup-port.—-It was 4ated that the Railway Department also intended, to appeal on his behalf. — Case adjourned until appeal by the Railwaji Traffic Manager i s re ceived. \ George Henry Loffhagen, farmer, of Kaiapoi, appealed on the grounds of undue hardship. He had been 'rejected as unfit, five mouths ago, and had since contracted to lease a farm of 56 acres. —Appeal adjourned for a month to permit pf medical i examination. Oliver Bernard McCormack, farmer, of Wairarapa, staffed that at the beginning of last year he enlisted and was 1 ejected as medically unfit. He then took over from? his partner a Government lease of 391 acres at Glenmark and got married. He was obliged to perform all his; 'own work, and if he went on active! service h e could find no one to look after tlie farm.— The Chairman said! he did not know whether any relief would be given in case of Crown tenants.— The appeal wasf fdjojr-i.id pending, medical examination. The appeal wtfe allowed in tho case of William Carson {Wilson, furniture salesman, of Rangiora, who had a wife and three children kn& had been married 13 years. ; ;."
