NEW ZEALAND GERMAN PRISONER OF WAR.
AUCKLAND, this day. The Hon Q. W. Russell, in a speech at the opening of the Red Cross rooms, said that his son stated" in a letter that among a.', number of German prisoners carried by. the s.s. Marama from France to England was a New Zealander, trained in one of our best-known college, institutions. Mr Russell ventured a warning to the public against giving credit to German inspired ,new» — such colored statements as were appearing, in the cabled news 1 from Home. These were calculated to discourage recruiting by giving the impression tliat it. was impossible to bring Germany together He knew that whatever the appearances of things the British people were determined to see the war through to a successful peace.
