FOUND DROWNED.
•When Mr. K. McGregor*, Was- proijeeding dawn the Tuiiang^nui- river "m his fishing launch ishortlyl'aitibr 5 o'clock 'this morning, he observed 'the body of a "man floating up the river, opposite the;'Turanganui hotel. He notified the police, and Constable FisCher superintended the removal of the body to the morgue. The body, is that of a fully-clothed .hian, iand from itg condition it is believeid' to have been m the : -water for at least a> week. ; . . ' ' ' •' The police are experiencing some difficulty m identifying the body. 7 lt is hot unlike that of an elderly man whose ; drinking habits have frequently brought him before the Court,, but the face is so disfigured that ii> is diflicult to say. for certain. Singularly enough, 'no.person, as far as the police know, has' been reported missing lately. The ' ibody is that of a thick-set man about 60 years of age, with a short sandy beard, tinged with grey. He wag wearing a tweed top coat, a blue serge coat, grey tweed waistcoat and trousers, blue linen shirt, flannel singlet, merino underpants, socks, and a strong* pair - ' of nail-sbled boots. There was a watch chain, but no watch, attached to his waistcoast, and the sum of 10s was found m his trousers pocket. An inquest was to commence at 3 o'clock this , afternoon, before Mr. W. A. Barton , S. M. , district coroner.
