The^ offensive was preceded by five days' intense artillery bombardment, and great aerial activity. As the result of the fighting the Austrians have, suffered the lieaviest reverse since General Cadoma's offensive early m August. The weather recently made progress most difficult. l b The Duke of Aosta commands the attacking army, which was the same as covered -.itself; with glory at Gorizia. ■ \ The assaults resulted m the capturing of several elaborately fortified lines, bringing the Italian front within thirteen miles of Trieste. General Cadoma's push ig further proof 'of the unity of the Allies, and is intended to assist Rumania, which is hard pressed m Transylvania, also to prevent Austria reinforcing the Lembere front. b
