ENEMY'S CONCENTRIC ATTACKS

(Received June. 1, 10.5 a.m.) PARIS, May 31. A communique states : Fierce fighting occurred during the day and night from' Mort Homme to the Meuse.
After ;v bombardment of unprece- j dented violence for two days the enemy made repeated concentric attacks by large effectives against the trenches east of Mort Homme and about Cumieres. wo repulsed the enemy, inflicting heavy losses, but south of Caurettes Wood we evacuated our first lino trenches, which the bombardment had levelled. . ' A German attack south of Cumieres from both sides of the village at first rolled us back in the direction of Ohattancourt station. Strong, counter-atv 'tables drove the enemy back to the outskirts of the village.' Some Gorman, detachments who crept along the Meuse in a fog near to the station, were annihilated. / The 'enemy j after intense artillery preparation, invaded the trenches east of Sippois. A counter-attack quickly drove them back.
