In the region south of Caurettes Wood the French front line trenches were com pletely levelled by' a bombardment, and were evacuated.
South, of Cumieres a German attack made on two sides of the village sue ceeded at first in throwing us back in the direction of the station at Chatancourt, but lively counter-attacks allowed us to oust' the enemy, up to the border of the village. Some parties of Germans, who glided along the Meuse, iaVoured by a fog, until they reached the upper end of Chattancourt station, were completely annihilated by our fire. On the right bank the artillery combat is intermittent.
