PREMIER AND RECRUITING.
EARNESTNESS OF THE PEOPLE. (Special to Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Mr Massey's recent experiences convince him that the public has grasped fully the groat opportunity of keeping up reinforcements. Fifteen hundred people, including many ladies, stood m the drenching rain at the Feildin^ recruiting meeting, amply demonstrating the community's earnestness. * S I don't believe three months ago we could have got such a meeting." declared Mr Massey. Feilding, he continued, is nearly cleaned out of young men. Not many are left there, but it is nonsense to take a pessimistic view of recruiting and say we. are short for the" next reinforcements, because ivo are some little distance from requiring them. There are four reinforcements fin camp. \,e expect a good many m after the holidays, as at Christmas. There is nothing to complain if wo have just got to keep up the pressure.
