PROPOSED KXPENDrrURE FOR 1916. SLIGHT- REDUCTION IN-TOTAL" RATING. A special committee meeting of the Borough Council was held laso evening for the coiisideratioh of the estimates for the "ensuing year ending March 31, 1917. , The estimates adopted provide for a total expenditure on general account for £79,587, as, compared with £78,889 for the past year. This Atrill «ntail a total rating of 4 61/64 d m £ on the uuiinproved rateable value of th 2 old Borough, being 2 29/64 d. for special rates and a 2£d general. -'Ka-Hi special •'•rate"- will : be •4 33/64 d and Wliataupoko 2 34/64 d, with the ' small Stout street area of id extra. Tlie' general rating # for the Borough, plus the average special rates', represents a total of 5d m the £, which is a little less* than "that of last year, when the total rating came to * 5 l/32d of a penny, Kaiti and the Stout street area being both a fraction 'higher. This year the Council p'rop.ise- to allocate£l6,B3B on general streat maintenance, as against £15,619 last year. Interest will ahsorb £17,864, as compared with ' £17,546 last -'■ war. Provision is being' made for the expenditure of £7473 on the eh'ctric light account, compared with : £6000 ' fur. I lift past year, also £3837 for 'sanitation and. drainage (£3784 last .year), £3167 on the tramway revenue* accpunt (£1950 last yeax*)'.
