RECRUITING IN GISBORNE.
Tho latest official return shows the position at Gisborne regarding recruiting :— Mounted : Fit 47, available for next draft 47, week's rejections 4; artillery, 7, 6, 0 ; engineers, 6, 5, 0 ; infantry, 60, 50, 10; army service corps, 2, 2, 2; Ambulance, 5, 5, 0; hospital ship, 1, 1, 0; veterinary, 1, 1, 0; Maoris, 12, 12, 4. A comparison between the numbers available for next quota and the numbers allotted is as follows: — Mounted, quota 13, secured 47; artiDery, 5, %; engineers, 4, 5 ; army service corps, 1, 2 ; infantry, 45, 50. The prospective n.c.o's on the waiting list and the numbers required for February are: Mounted, quota 1, waiting 3 ; infantry, 1, 3.Four recruits attended the medical examination this afternoon, and the following three were passed as fit, the other being rejected : — Bell, George Franklyn, single, contractor, To Karaka ; 6 year 8 volunteers , and territorials. (N.C.O 1 .) Kearney, Patrick, station-hand, c/o F. S. Bowen, Mahia. (Infantry.) Smith, Thomas Jeremiah. . Troopers E. Hansen and L. Spurden, (Wellington Mounted Rifles) previously reported missing, now reported killed m action, left with the Gisborne draft of the Main Body of the Expeditionary Force.
