John Harris, a resident of Marton Junction, was arrested at Humterville last night 'by Oonstable Sweeney, charge.l with, setting fire to a, five-roomed dwelling on the 18th. inst. He appeared before Mr Hewitt, and was remanded for eight days, bail being allowed of £400 and two sureties of £200 each. WELLINGTON, this day. Mi 1 .Blow, Under-Secretary for Public Works, has resigned. He leaves the service, which he joined in 1873, ir April, on three months' leave of absence.
