FATAL LOG ACCIDENT.
(Per Press Association.) ROTORUA, last night. An inquest- on the body of Alfred Kereru Kdwards, who died for injuries caused by n log falling un him in tlie Miunaku bush, was held to-day before Mr W. E. Bennett, J.l\, acting-coroner, and a. jury. In reply to a question from the jury, he saidMie called in Dr Bertram jor consultation, not Dr Scott Watson, who attended deceased before admission. Hv knew Dr Scott Watson had been in attendance on the man. Witness did imt know any reason why he should liav.. been called into the hospital. They were not compelled, to call in any one". It would have been necessary to call another doctor if they had decided is operate. He had no intention of'show--1 ing discourtesy to Dr Scott Watson. He , could caJl in whom lie lfked, and he i followed the usual custom of calling in Dr Bertram. It rested ' with . the doctor in charge of the hospital as to whom he called in. It would not have assisted the patient had he called in the doctor who first' attended him. The jury returned a verdict of jiccii dental death, no blame being attachable | to anyone, and added a rider commenting «n the first doctor 1 , consulted not having been called in.
