AUSTRALIAN MEAT EXPORT.
FIRST QUALITY MEAT FOR LOCAL CONSUMPTION.
(Received Juno 3, 10.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, June 3. In the Assembly, Mr Hagelthorn. dealing with the meat, shortage, announced that exporters had decided to make available .ill meat deemed to be surplus 1 at prices slightly higher than fchpse' arranged iiv the original Government arrangement.' The Government were cabling these 'prices to the Imperial Government, alsc representing that m view of the shortage, Victoria considered the export season, had practically terminated, and that the meat at present held m Victoria was primarily needed for local consumption. Exporters have agreed to supply locally first quality beef at a maximum of 6d, mutton at s£d, and lamb at 6£d. It was pointed out that this was 16s per lOOlbs above the Imperial Government arrangement.
