At the last /meeting of the Borough Coimcil, the May^or (Mr W; <G. Sher rat-t) intimated that it would bo necessary to increase the abattoir fees. A report, on this subject wns submitted by the Town Clerk to last night's 'committee meeting of the Council as follows :" — "In accordance with your instructions, I have the honor to submit a report oh the feds for killing stock nt tho Gisborne abattoirs. The' fees mi present being charged are as follow.-;, and' are insufficient to meet the expense* of runniiig tho abattoirs : — For cattle 5s 6d p\:r head, -calves. ?s, sheep or lambs Is, pigs Is to' '2s 6d. cleaning tripes 6d, cleaning - calves heads and trotters Is. The revenue from the v abattoirs for" the year was £1864. 'Tho.kilhjig at the institution last year' was as under : Cattle 3139, sheep and lambs 16,184, calves 127,, pigs 1173. And m order to obtain the amount of revo nue as set out m the estimates for the present year, viz., £2220, it will le necessary to increase the killing charges as under : For every head of other largo cattle otaer than calves. 6s 6d ; ''c every calf. 3s: for cverv ;oicop or laivl:. Is 3d ; tor every pig other than sucker." , 3s j suckers, under 201 b each, Is 6d : cleaning tripes, 6d ; cleaning calves heads and trotters, Is. ■ I Under section 3 of the Slaughfcerinv;
and Inspection Act Amendment Act, 1910, it is necessary when altering the scale of charges of an abattoir to make a by-law accordingly. I therefore sug■srost that the necessary by-law be proceeded with, and that a special meeting of the Council be held on the Bth Juru>, 1915, to pass tho required resolution !y way of special order. By a coincidence, the fees that will make the amount required happen to be similar to those of the Council's first by-law.
