GERMAN LINE WEAKENING
PIERCED AT SEVERAL POINTS
AMSTERDAM, June* 1. 'The Allies, are advancing on St. Julien. - : The German line has weakened, giving ground north-eastward of Ypres be-- | fore vigorous attacks, preceded by an effective bombardment of the trenches. The. enemy, despite orders to hold on at all ycosts, are gradually losing the gi'ound won there a month ago. Their line was pierced at several points, but they continue to courageously defend every cottage, clump of trees,. and stone wall. The defensive line, instead of a series of unbroken trenches, is now ! irregulav, consisting of a hastily improvised meJ J ley of small forts the whole of the way between Ypres and Di^mude. The Allied airmen are very active, bombing magazines, stores, and reservi troops^ They also raided Zeebrugge . n Sunday. PARIS, Juno 1. Official : We made further progress to the north of Arras on the road from Souehez. We occupied the Talon mill and some German trenches stretching from the mill to the sugar factory. There; are only artillery duels on the outskirts of Boiß-le-Pretro. J The Germans have removed their hos pital base at Tournni further back.
