A wide circle of friends will learn with sincere regret of the death ; of » . resident bf Gisborne for 43 years, Mr 'Edward Pattrieks' 3 byce, who passed away peacefully, at his residence, Spring Terrace, North Gisborne, at an early hour this 1 morning. For years past Mr Joyce had been m a ° poor state of health, though his^robpst constitution enabled him to make some surprising recoveries from severe illness, ;dur- ■ ing whjch he was nursed with' assiduous care and attention. Born at Tiernakiel House, County Galway, Ireland, seventy years ago he became a man of wide experience. Hs took a ' leading part \ m local government affairs m Gisborue for naany years, and for a long period ha occupied a seat qu the Borough Council. He was a member of the first Harbor Board, and took a prominent part m the agitation for a , suitable putijr liarbor for this district. He supported the- late Ah- W. L. Rees Avith great heartiness' m his village settlement scheme.. On the Hospital and Charitable- Aid Board and other local bodies .he took an active ' part, and lib was. a 1 'prominent supporter .of rowing fip^L other athletic sports.
