.ATTACKS REPULSED WITH HEAVY' LOSSES. PETROGRAD, May 29. Our success of Sieniawa is interpreted to mean that a number of AustroGermans from West Galacia are going to Trentino. Official : We captured a stronghold at Bulie, near Mhavli, capturing upwards of 1000 prisoners, and assumed the offensive north-west and eastward ot Sieniawa, inflicting heavy losses. We captured fortifications on the Pizany front, the Third Caucasian Corps taking 6000 Austro-German prisoners and six heavy field guns. ' The Caucasians Jater carried Sieniawa by assault taking 1000 prisoners and five guns. Nevertheless, the enemy, owing to considerable superiority in, artillery, gained ground on both banks of the San /southward and eastward of Radymno. The enemy, after several days' furious fighting, captured fresh trenches eastward of Guisakowu, but are being gradually dislodged between the marshes of the Dneister and Dolina.
Official : We dislodged the Germans from .Kurtoviany, in the vShavli district, and tlie enemy are retreating in disorder, the Russians actively pursuing. There is no important change at Van. Some villages in the Tukhaia district changed hands several times. The enemy prepared for the attacks by bombard- 1 ing the Russian puositions with asphyxiating bombs. Numerous prisoners from General | Mackensen's Army 'are unanimous that the enemy's kisses have been enormous, j We repulsed three enemy attacks eastward of Gussakow, and the enemy fell back to their first positions with heavy losses. The battle between the Dniester marshes and Dorlena is ' characterised with great violence. Large enemy forces, regardless of i losses, were marched obstinately to assault the Russian positions., These at- 1 tacks were repulsedj';and we seized the offensive on the left bank of the Svitza and on the whole front to Lomnitza. ' Our offensive near Perekhinsky is successfully developing. Wo here took 3^oo prisoners, including 72 officers, the flag of a ' fioved Regiment, mid several machine-guns. PETROGRAD, May 30. , The militaiy authorities are attaching greater importance to the invasion of the Baltic provinces, where the Germans are steadily reinforcing 1 . : : The troops are grouped .into three bodies— -at Libau, Rossieny, and east Shavli. It Is stated that General Falkenhausen, who commands, brought troops from France. The Germans nave lost ground considerably in the past fortnight. Their • original idea Was to fight on a short front and drive a wedge with | massed forces, but Russian strategy compelled them to extend, and thus they lost .their initial advantage. ' Russians at Van captured 26 guns and other arms and great stores of provisions, and also Government treasury. The Turks \fere pursued southward and westward with hea-vy losses.
