PRESBYTERIAN FETE.
The postponed fete organised m connection witn the wUatawnero charge of the i'resbyterian Church took place at the Patutahi Domain yesterday afternoon. Despite the threa ceiling nature of tne weather, there was a fainy large attendance, - including visitors' iivoni town. Ihe main object oi the function; to promote social intercourse ■ amongst the Church members, "was iully realised, as a tine spirit prevailed and a most enjoyable outing resulted. In addition to the success oi this phase of the undertaking the church cotters will benefit to the extent of about £20. During the afternoon several stalls of the usual nature- were' m. evidence, being under the supervision of a ladies' committee, whose assiduous efforts were crowned with success. The fete- was organised by a committee representing; the fouu centres, Matawhero,' Makauri, " Patutahi and Te Arai, with Mr J. W. Taunt as secretary, and no small amount ot credit is due to the latter for the able manner m winch he performed his; arduous duties. A sports programme was gone through and provided some interesting competitions. . Mr G. Witters made a competent judge, whilst the costumes m the Gretna Green event were adjudicated upon by Mrs A. H. Number of beans m bottle, for a vase : G. Witters 1.
The committee desire to thank all who assisted to make the fete a success; also Messrs, Gv Witters, W. Peryer, , Chas. Gibson and W. Johnson for donating the lambs, sheep and pig used m the guessing competitions, and Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., Ltd., Bennett and Sherratt, Williams and Kettle, Ltd. and Primrose and Leslie for donating special prizes. At the conclusion of the sports the prifies wero distributed, . and afterwards the goods remaining m the stalls were auctioned by Mr R. V. Gully. During the afternoon a number oosf s children's races were also run.
