RUSSIANS SHATTER ENEMY'S . RESISTANCE.
ATTACKS REPULSED WITH HEAVY LOSS. PETROGRAD, Feb. 8. Official: We were successful in night attacks at Rypin. Our artillery routed a column marching towards Bolimow, and captured its guns. Fighting occurred along the whole front of the Carpathians. We shattered the enemy's resistance at three fortified positions at Mezolaborez and pursued them for several versts, capturing 172 officers and upwards of 10,000 -men, 13 guns, and 22 machine guns. The enemy^ attacks at Tukholka and Beskio Passes were repulsed with heavy losses,- and they retreated in disorder. ROME, Feb. 8. The Messaggero's Petrograd correspondent reports that the conflict on the Vistula and the Rawka was titanic. Soldiers fell in thousands and their bodies were piled three feet high. The rescue of the wounded was difficult. Many were buried with their comrades' corpses.
