BANKRUPTCY.

ESTATE OF ROBERT ROBB. The following statement has been filed witlt the Official Assignee (Mr J. Coleman) -by Robert Robb , of Gisborrie, wood and coal merchant, who has filed a petition in bankruptcy: "In September, 1904, I commenced business at Gisborne as a wood arid coal merchant in partnership with my brother, Mr Jas. A. Robb, alid with the addition of shipping business, 1 have continued to carry on a similar business to the date of bankruptcy. The - -partnership continued for' :six years, when another brother^ Mr Geo.Rpbb, joined the firm. Five years ago Mr Jas. Robb on account of ill-health, withdrew from the business, and Air Gco. Roou arid myself carried pit until, about three years "ago, when we dissolved. The business was then solvent, showing a net capital of £900 in my favor, with which I continued the business. JJntil last year the business .was prosperous, and it was only in August last that any real difficulties presented themselves. Shortly after the war broke out I found it necessary to reriew bills for December, and from that period I have felt the pinch. For the main portion of my business I relied on the shipping, and in- August this fell away to a very largo extent. Since then the vessel has made serious lossefc — freight fell off, and even when freight was secured, the boat was always delayed in consequence of the general disorganisation of trade arid the shipping business in particular. After the Christmas holidays L was served with a writ and four summonses, and another creditor pressed', for security over the ship. A distress warrant was put in, and in justice to 'the general . body of my creditors, I was advised., to file. I attribute mv bankruptcy to losses occasioned by the shipping 'business."
