DEM. Y IN DELIVERING MATERIAL. RESULT OF foflE ANTWERP -SIEGE. , (Specialio Herald.) WELLINGTON, this duy. A portion of 'the AVesteui Electric Company's automatic telephone equipment for use in New Zealand Was being niudo in Antwerp when war broke out, and the sadden capitulation of tho city to the GitrmaiiH, preceded as it was by great destruction of factories and stores, will result' in delay to part of tho Dominion's new telephone scheme. Preparations are being 1 inado. for the establishing of automatic telephone exchanges at Ponsbnby, Mount Eden, Rehiuera, and Hamilton, tho exchanges at these Jirsfc places to comprise 'the first portion* of the scheme for Auckland, but the disorganisation of the Antwerp factory, where the. apparatus was being made, will probably, delay delivery of mtfti&ial.afc Auckland. Still, unless unforeseeir cirtfu'ttistarices arise, it is hoped, that delivery may be commenced in May next, after which it will be* at/ least eight months before yhe apparatus is.installed. ; In the. meantime nrovision has been made," as in tq.e' case ol Wellington, for telephone development' in Auckland by an auxiliary automatic exchange. This mean's. that there will be together .the automatic and .the manual, until the delivery of the apparatus en-, ables full automatic to be installed.
