A sensational accident occurred at Matheson's cutting, •on the BallanceGorgo voacL -.Mr and Mrs Basil T Croad, of Ballarice; were motor-cycling from the >"Wbodyille ; show. -The engine < was ftfc low gear,- 'and' when afe the- dangerous .part >of the road, where there- is a lot o£- broken ■ metal,.. Mr Groad got off the cycle, but. his wife remained, iry the siderchair'. .When ihey^ reaohed. the top of the cutting, Mr Croad went, to remount the cycle, hut his foot 'slipped from, under him; the machine got out of his control, .and being on the level, travelled. some.. chains -at a fait speed* • It left the 'meifeftl and got' on t« the grass, , then skidded over the bank, a drop, it is estimated, of "about 40ft, where Mrs Croad landed m some bushes. She was rescued' m an insensible condition, and . remained to for some; time. She -was much bruised and shaken, but no bonos wero broken.
