The State Department officially investigated Count BernstoflPs allegations that the United States supplied dumdum bullets for the Allies' use. The Department discovered that the samples of dvum-dums submitted by Count Bernstoff would not fit any rifle used by Belgian, Russian, French, or British armies.'
A polite reply was returned that Count Bernsboff's allegations were unfounded.
