General Sir lan Hamilton* contributes a j)ocin to tho September English Review on General Gordon, which comes at an appropriate time when another hero of Khartoum, Lord Kitchener, is at the War Office. Characteristic verses are :
Look, where our flag, like a restless flame, Proclaims ;af air the end of fear; Where would it be but for deeiftrof f HITIC ; But for the man who stbod* under it— here ! ■ As the Dervishes stormed — Charles Gordon ?'
When the thirsty spears set his spirit free, • ■ He met them, we know, as friend meets friend : Sharp keys wore they, to Eternity, But he has it— i y6u swear— death was never Ihe end Of tho leader ws!ioved— Charles Gordon.
