TURANGANUI CLUB.
The Christmas tournament in connection with the above club was held on •Friday and Saturday last, and in every respect, proved an enjoyable and successful pne. Six full rinks were engaged, .being skipped respectively 'by M ess *s A. Sawyer P. Howard, W. Ratcliffe, W. Howard, Dan Barry, and W. Dooley. Despite the fact that rain came on and stopped play on the first day, the full prOgrajnme was carried out, the last few nead- of the final being .concluded with ,the aid; of electric light. Some of the games were very " close', in fact, several \were~ snatched out of the fire on'-, the last head. P. HpWard, who. ultimately .'won the -tournament, had ia narrow vie-, ,tpry oyer: Ratcliffe in the fifth' round,-' and it * was a . The r game between Dooley and Ratcliffe in the fifth robhd was ' also woii by ' the lafjter by a single point. At the conclusion of the tournament all present joined in drinking the health of the "winning team, and a number of speeches were made. Three hearty" cheers were given for the • Presi-, derit, ; (Mr,Ai Sawyer) wihd, in replying, congratulated the members on the great success achieved, and stated it was one of the most enjoyable tournaments he had participated in. He paid a tribute of praise to the committee, aiid also to the assistant secretary (Mr J. A. Baton), who iii the absence of the secretary, had so capably, carried, uut his duties. After a few more heads had, been played, .-a rink oh they small g*ceen was rolled, and the electric' light switched on, end the game continued, before a large number qfj spectators, who remained to see tbe conclusion of .^the .tournament. Hoveard's team were all playing well* whilst Sawyer's appeared to *be feeling the strain of .the day!s play, and could do nothing. With two. heads to go, Howard was well up; Sawyer got in two on the next head, whilst Howard scored on the last, and thus won the touxney.
