To lovers of, a bright, refined entertainment the programmes of *the "Court Cards" will appeal as much as cards themselves do to lovers of a quiet little game. . Mirth and melody are judiciously blended -in artistic settings, and the diversified talents of the happy combination of artists provide an excellent evening's diversion. Miss Maud Fane, in her character of. Queen of Hearts, is responsible for dealing much piquant yet dainty humor which -, never \ fails to secure its. merited *meed of appreciation from a discerning audience. The' dainty comedian of the "Cards" will, rapidly nlay her, way into the affections ofsNew Zealanders as she has so well contrived to. do* elsewhere. Miss Renee' Maude, > jvho made in , Napier ; her first -Australasian appearance, _ brings a reputation, as' a soprano yo<iaHst- that has- bf en earned through r successful .appearances at such ... functions .- as the 'famous . Chappell concerts in London, while Miss Winifred Mitchell's contributions to -jihe iprci-' gramme' wiU " doubtless prpve . as'; accept-' able*, as ,they are unique -in this type of entertainment. Messrs Edgar / ; Warwick, with his -quiet ,*md confidential type ; of , humor, and ; Sydney Mannering! whose artistic renderings of old ■ English ;tenor songs are still 'fresh 'in the .memories of legions of J patrons of the ■ 'Trbubadonrs," -are more than well-known to New* Zealanders. ' In the person.* of Mr George^ Graystone, however., the ; theatregoers .will appreciate an -artist who-, while possessing a fine basso profundo voice, also displays a keen sense *of -' comedy, which* has stood him in good stead on .the > English - light opera /stage.
