Since July less than r four inches of rain has fallen .m Auckland, as compared with fourteen inches, the average fall for August, September, October and November.- •. The result Is that the dairy industry, which three months ago appeared to be embarking on the most prosperous season oh Tecord, is now gradually slackening, and the position is daily growing more . serious. No growth .is left m the pastures, and dairy 'herds are gradually becoming less profitable. Many growers report that their potato crops have been ruined by the prevailing dryness, and Waitemata strawberry growers state . that the drought has- done so much damage already m their gardens that they will have for the market this year less than half the 600,000 boxes of strawberries produced last year. DUNEDIN. this day. The . Presbyterian General Assembly yesterday afternoon received, reports -'from lona, Columbia, St. Margaret's, and Auckland Girls' Colleges. Each represented satisfactory conditions, good work being .done. In the evening -the reports of ther Maori missionary field were taken. ,These disclosed a rapid state of progress being made. More workers were required. The fire insurance report showed that the insurances m force on August 18 amounted to £212,857* distributed over 215 churches. The new century fund report showed grants to .'*'-__. ' following: Kelburn £100, Matamata £225, Otorohariga £150, Seaftoun £150, Te Kuiti £90 15s 3d. making a total of £715 15s 3d, During- the evening addresses were given "by tlie Revs. Jolly and Gray Dixon, on the mission work of Samuel Marsden.
