SURPRISING THE GERMANS.
FAILURE OF VIOLENT ATTACKS. * LONDON, Nov. 24. French cavalry surprised three com-. panics of German infantry m a wood east of Ypres. They were starving, and had been eating the bark of trees. They surrendered, with forty officers. The Allies last week attacked Lorn■ baertzyde. Prior to the assault, news was received that a large convoy of ariiy munition had reached tlie German fort. A Britiah colonel called for two volunteers to blow up the convoy, and they
succeeded. The infantry then dashed on Lombaertzyde, and cleared the town, an English monitor causing heavy losses during the German retreat. Both volunteers escaped unhurt. The British fleet bombarded Zeebrugge, causing a great fire. A German battery fruitlessly fired on warships at Blankenburg. The warships silenced the battery. PARIS, Nov. 24. Official : Cannonades continue at Soissons and Rheims. Violent attacks on both sides of. the Argonne were resultless.
