GERMANY FROM WITHIN.

PREPARING FOR A LONG WAR. FACTORIES WORKING AT HIGH PRESSURE TO PRODUCE WAR MATERIAL. THE INVASION OF ENGLAND. (London Times and Sydney Sun Services.) (Received Nov. 25, 8.30 a-m.) LONDON, Nov. 24. A Times correspondent with an intimate knowledge of Germany writes: — "Germany is preparing for a long war. lib is hardly possible to starve them out. They may run out of wheat and eggs, but there is abundance of other food. It is certain the war is unpopular with the people as a whole. The newspapers know, but dare not tell the truth, fearing suppression. "A religious wave has swept over the country since the outbreak of war. It i.s pitiable to hear quiet, sobbing women m the churches and to see the black dresses. I have never witnessed a more touching service than at Cologne Cathedral. The priest happening to mention the destruction of Rhcims Cathedral, heart-rending ■ sobs, shuddered through the worshippers. "All the factories are working at high pressure, producing war material. The great shipyards are now working night arid day. Visitors . spending the night at Kiel hardly sleep, owing to the noise of the workshops. The general cry is, 'Build warships and Zeppelins.' They kre aware, that England easily outdistanced them m warships, and are placing their hopes on Zeppelins. "They realise that an attack on England would be a risky business, but are certain to make the attempt. Great masses of timber have been transported from Suwalki to Belgium. I was told it was meant for making rafts to transport a big German army across the Channel."
