Hill said it was a strange thing that documents should be taken away. It was hard to say 'how it had gone, but it was a serious matter, and* deserved searching inquiry. He made no insinuations against anyone, but the letter had been taken away and there must be some motive.

The Mayor : Will you move any motion ?

Cr. Hill said he did not wish, to implicate ■ any one , but proper steps should be taken to see that the petition was returned, <md if necessary the matter be put m the detective's hands.

It was agreed to instruct the Town Clerk to make an effort to have the petition recovered.
