HOLLAND'S SENTENCE TO REMAIN.

PREMIER PREDICTS BOOM IN SPRING AND SUMMER,

(Prom Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. In the course of a deputation to the Premier to-day an earnest appeal was made on behalf of the Federated Timber Workers of New Zealand for the release wf Harry Holland. Mr Massey . replied that the Government had nothing to do with, the administration of the law m any British country. Holland broke the law and was tried by the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice presiding. He (the Premier) would express no opinion as to the severity bf fche sentence. H e thought it would be a very serious matter if the (Government or Parliament interfered with the decision of the law courts. Tlie Government could therefore, make no recommendation for the / remission of Holland's sentence. If any member of the Government broke the law he would • Slave to take the consequences the same ,as anyone Abo. Another matter uTged was restriction of immigration. The Premier stated that the only assisted people Were domestic servants and farm laborers. 'So far as he could hear there was a big demand Hor both classes. He commented on the fact that predictions had been made of a hard winter. The Labor Department had informed him that they were able to find work for every able-bodied man tfchafc conies' along. 'He was personally •aonvinced the country was going to have » "boom m the coming spring and summer, -and there woidd be a tremendous demand for all classes of labor.
