It is reported that several important changes m connection with the general staff are likely to take place shortly, as has already been officially announced. ' Colonel E. S. Heard, chief of the general staff, will be returning, to Eiigland iii. July, and it is stated that Colonel E. W. 0. Chaytor, officer commanding the Wellington military district, with headquarters at Palmerston North, is to be promoted to .the Dominion headquarters, Wellington, though what office he is to filTi&as not been mentioned.
It is also stated that Colonel Chaytor is to be succeeded at Palmerston North by 'Major Johnstone, an Imperial officer who ia at present m New Zealand on furlough from India.
Colonel V. S. Smyth, officer commanding tho Canterbury' military district, will be leaving for England "shortly on six months' leave of absence, and while h© is away his duties will be carried on by Colonel R. A. Ch'affey, Brigadier -of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade.
