A start has been made with tlie erection of the Rugby Union's training shed abutting the Qhilders road reserve. At the Police 'Court this morning, before Mr W. A. Barton, S.M., two, first offenders for drunkenness were fined ss, and- costs 2s, m default 24 hours' hard labor. Another first offender, who did not appear, was fined the amount of his bail, 10s. An elderly man, named Michael O'Brien, for a second, conviction for drunkenness within six months, was fined - £I, ' and costs 2s, m default four days' imprisonment. x Some of the over-carried passengers by the s.s. Warrimoo, who only reached Gisborne to-day from the South,, call-id at this office, and on their behalf Mr J. B. Smith stated they desired to express their admiration of the manner m which Capt., Hawkes handled the s.s. Tuatea m the roadstead, when endeavoring to establish communication with tho Warrimoo. They were also well treated oil -the Warrimoo during a storm of exceptional violence. „ Mr Dahm, Ruakituri, reports that the country m his direction has slipped very badly. The bridges are all safe up the valley as far as- he knew, but the roads are badly blocked, not only slipping from tho bottom but from tho top. The Ohufca branch road, which' he traversed last week,.was m a terrible state, and he assumes it is now impassable. The river rose within six. feet of the bridge at Boothman's, and there was 10ft of water over the submerged bridge spanning Te Reinga Falls. Nothing is yet known of stock, losses m the Ruakituri. '[ The grounds were arranged as follows: Ground along on Disraeli street side, soccer football; ground on Roebuck road*. side, league football; ground end on to Childers road m centre, hockey; ground m centre at Gladstone road end, rugby.
